Yeah, I've read it. I'm an INTP too. I found it's description of my personality so enlightening I was finally able to stop hating myself for being different. I have a friend who has read and studied the book so much she is turning it into a career as a professional profiler. Interesting stuff!

1994 marked the 80 years from 1914 which was pretty much the extent a generation could be expected to live based on the scripture in Psalms 90:10 about the days of a persons life being 70 or 80 years. A watchtower article came out in 1984 that showed an aging generation that would not pass away.
The international year of peace was 1986. I remember because I was in 8th grade and I told all my little junior high friends they were going to die because armageddon was coming that year.

DFing and Dying
by IMHO infor those that still believe.. what hope is there is you die whilst you're disfellowshipped?.
.

I don't still believe but I haven't been out that long. To die while one is Df'd was a pretty dire prognosis. Some would try and say that Jehovah could read their hearts and Romans 6:7 says "He who has died has been acquitted from his sins." So some tried to hope for the best, especially when it's family, but most felt to die while being DF'd was pretty much the second death.

Prom tonight!
by FifthOfNovember ini'm excited and nervous at the same time.
i'm a horrible dancer but oh well, i know i'll have fun.
i don't have any immediate family that are witnesses, so i've had it really easy compared to most people on the board..

No, didn't get to go to prom--but I didn't want to. I was pretty socially backward and viewed it as one more opportunity to humiliate myself in public. But I now wish things had been very different. All these little events are like rites of passage. Have fun tonight!

WT scars that run deep
by man in black inmy son who is 26 yrs.
old recently confided in my wife and myself that he is having a rough time moving on past the jw mindset.. he was associated with the witnesses for the first 24 years of his life, and he really tried to do the whole witness thing correctly, yet he was and still is a shy person.
now that he has been out for two years, he is having a lot of anger toward people who believe in god.

StandFirm-- I think the damage may be directly comparable to the level of control a religion has over ones life. Mormons probably feel similar to Jw's. But I have met a lot of ex-Catholics who seem to have gotten on with life quite easily. That's just my opinion...which is actually not worth very much.
Man in Black-- Thank you for posting this! I am going through the same thing as your son. My husband is in awe at the level of resentment I have been able to build up. I have a lot of anger and can be quite open about expressing it. I don't want to have anything to do with Christianity and am tired of the terms, God, Jehovah, Jesus Christ, the Bible, Etc. I am leaning toward atheism because of my disgust at religion in general. My hubby and I have discussed this and all we can assume is my scars go much deeper than his. I spent my life, not just believing the lies, but being kicked by the liars. My own mother expressed concern of my remaining a witness when I was only 12 because of the level of anger I felt toward the brotherhood, and especially the elders. I am very "in your face" about the injustices and lies and exaggerations I am only beginning to understand. Do I need therapy? Likely. But I think I also need time. Time to heal and come to grips with a whole new world view. We were taught so many negative and destructive things and many of us have given years to an ideal we will never regain.
Don't be angry at your son. Yeah, he may choose to believe differently from you but it will be his choice. That's the beauty of no longer being a JW. We have choices. Let him work through his pain and resentment. Let him rediscover the beauty in the world we were always told didn't exist outside the Watchtower society. But most of all give him room to process the deep scars caused by the cult.
I hope this helps.

The story is based on the life of Tabita Broner. In the final scene of the film, after Sarah has left the funeral of her friend, she boards a train and smiles at a blond girl listening to her ipod. That girl is Tabita. She is currently living in Copenhagen and going to University. I have seen the movie three times and love it!

Anarchy on the JW FB page--subscriber numbers are dropping
by Lunatic Faith ini've been one my entire life.
i dont think its fair that only one group of individuals out of 33,000 other groups (other religions).
when we knock on people's doors, and they dont want to hear what we have to say, how do we know that its just that they believe so strong what they believe, and may have believed for their entire life, that they just dont want to hear what we have to say?

When we knock on people's doors, and they dont want to hear what we have to say, how do we know that its just that they believe so strong what they believe, and may have believed for their entire life, that they just dont want to hear what we have to say? Does that mean they arent going to make it into the new system? Is god really sick enough to only choose one group of us out of all the others? It'd be like "Oh, sucks for you, you picked the wrong religion". I simply cant believe in religion anymore. No more interpretations of man for me.- I think if there is a higher being and it's a big if in my mind he/she/it must be appalled at the division in his name. about an hour ago ·
- Theres nothing higher than god. about an hour ago ·
- Oh, yes. If I was God I'd accept all those committing atrocities in my name. Think I'll start with the Peoples Temple. 31 minutes ago ·
- What is is they say Bruce: 'We are all made in the image and likeness of God'. Don't kid yourself into thinking you're better than anyone else. 28 minutes ago · You're all arrogant... 25 minutes ago ·
- A sincere question?
If there are only room for 144,000 JW in the 'New System' what happens to the rest of the JW?- Well.. you don't seem to know, and short answer here won't help you much here. what you can do id asked them directly when they knock on your door. Or you can go to the official watchtower.org website. 7 hours ago ·
- I wouldn't have asked if I had known, and the official site doesn't answer the question for me, please feel free to direct me to the site area that does answer this question, if you can. 7 hours ago ·
- The 144,000 number refers only to those going to heaven. Those to be on earth are considered an unnumbered great crowd. 5 hours ago ·
- Can you reserve a spot in advance. ;) 4 hours ago ·
- A spot in heaven? Nope. A spot on earth? Sure.
- Looks like Charis gave you a very good short answer. I would also recommend attending a Sunday meeting at your local Kingdom Hall, and then staying late afterwards to speak with a knowledgeable member of the congregation about your questions. 4 hours ago ·
- Thanks Rachel but that's something I wont be doing. I like to set my own moral codes rather than be dictated to. But I am enjoying this group. 47 minutes ago ·

The problem with the R & F is that they keep their heads buried in Watchtower rhetoric and deny the majority of the failed prophecies. They can't deny 1975 because there are too many people still alive who remember it and too many publications which speak of it. The previous dates have been reworked by WT history to reflect a completely different interpretation. When I posted the above quote from the Herald Sun on the FB JW page this is the response I got:
Witnesses have never predicted prophesies. We know Jehovah will not allow us to know and not even Jesus knows when the end will come. 1914 was when the beginning of the end began when Jesus begun his rule and began to judge nations separating sheep from goats. But we do not know the exact date of the end. But it can come within the twinkle of an eye.
I haven't even responded because the comment is so ignorant on so many levels. The JW's have predicted numerous times; the WT teaches that though JC said he didn't know the day and hour while he was on earth, he surely knows it now as God's executioner; the judging of the sheep and goats hasn't begun yet (according to new light from the 90's); they only came up with the invisible presence of JC some 30 years after 1914 failed to bring expected judgment; etc, etc, etc.
It's amazing how the R&F don't even understand the very things they claim to believe in wholeheartedly.
